Interstate 95, also known as the Delaware Turnpike, provides access to Baltimore and Washington, DC to the south and Philadelphia and New York to the north. It splits Wilmington in half.
Interstate 495 branches off of I-95 in Newport and veers east around Wilmington, and then connects back with I-95 past Claymont.
Interstate 295 splits around the same time as I-495, but instead heads straight east into New Jersey, where part branches off into the New Jersey turnpike. If you follow I-295 long enough, you’ll merge back into I-95 north of Philadelphia.
Downtown Wilmington is set up more or less on a grid pattern, but once you get away from the heart of the city, the streets start to wind a little bit.
