There are no DMV offices within the city of Providence itself.  The address listed above is to the main office, the website will have listings of all locations and hours, so you can find the most convenient one.  Also, there are many things that can be done online, so you don’t have to wait in line.

Driver’s License
New residents to Rhode Island must pay $30 and do the following to get a Rhode Island license:

Turn in your old license.

Furnish proof that you are now a Rhode Island resident, like a utility bill, voter registration card, lease agreement, or property tax bill.

Show your Social Security card.

The first Rhode Island license expires 2 years after it was issued, then every five years.

Vehicle Registration
According to Rhode Island law, you have 30 days from when you move to the state to register your vehicle.  To do that, you’ll need to:

Show your title to the vehicle.

Show proof of residency (see above for examples).

Show proof of insurance from a carrier licensed in Rhode Island.

Fill out a tax-exempt form so you don’t get taxed on the vehicle.

Get your vehicle inspected for emissions and safety.

Pay $25 for the title and $30 to register the vehicle.
