Downtown
The centerpiece of downtown Omaha is the Old Market, a historic multi-block area filled with fine restaurants and unique shops that serve as a magnet for locals and tourists alike. Several excellent hotels are just steps away from the action, including the Embassy Suites Downtown and the Courtyard by Marriott. With a new arena/convention center going up just north of the Market, you can be sure more hotels will pop up in and around the area soon. Just a few blocks west is the downtown business district, offering several properties within walking distance of corporate offices and entertainment hot spots. The hotels here have something for everyone: the Doubletree Hotel offers high-rise views and many amenities, the Best Western Redick Plaza overflows with charm and the Sheraton Hotel Omaha, perhaps the most elegant hotel in the city, offers excellent service in a historic setting. If casino gambling floats your boat, don’t miss Harvey’s Casino Hotel and Ameristar Casino Hotel, located across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Eppley Airport
If you plan a quick trip to Omaha, you may choose to hang your hat at one of several hotels located along Eppley Airport’s Abbott Drive. The properties here offer low rates and easy access to rental car outlets, and they are located just minutes from downtown. Airport Ramada Inn, situated on the south edge of Eppley, is the closest lodging to the airport. With a full restaurant and lounge, indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool and meeting rooms accommodating groups of 10-400, this hotel makes a great home base for the business or leisure traveler. Also located near the airport is the Sleep Inn at the Airport, offering complimentary continental breakfast, in room movies and a free stay for children who sleep in a parent’s room. The new arena/convention center (currently under construction on the south end of Abbott Drive) will keep these hotels busy when it is completed in 2003.
Central
Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city (and save some serious bucks) by staying at one of the excellent hotels offered in Central Omaha. A cluster of properties sits where I-80 and 72nd Street meet, and here you’ll find a plethora of lodging options, including Holiday Inn Central, Ramada Inn Central, Best Western Central Executive Center, Doubletree Guest Suites and more. If a bed-and-breakfast is more your style, check out the Cornerstone Bed and Breakfast, a beautiful stone home built in 1894 updated with all of the luxuries of modern living.
Southwest/West Central/Northwest
As a massive number of homes and businesses are establishing themselves in the western areas of town, many hotels are following suit. Visitors will find a conglomeration of properties located in and around the area where I-680 and L Street converge. If you plan to visit the popular Ashland area, home to the SAC Museum, Quarry Oaks Golf Course, Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park & Wildlife Safari, Eugene Mahoney State Park and more—this is an excellent area of town to consider. There are hotels in a variety of price ranges, with the Clarion Hotel Carlisle and Four Points Hotel on the upper end and the Super 8 towards the lower end. More centrally located properties include the Best Western Regency, Crowne Plaza Old Mill, Candlewood Suites and the Settle Inn Suites. All are close to shopping, dining and entertainment. Go just a tad farther north on I-680 to the Maple Street exit to find La Quinta Inn and Ramada Limited Suites.
