Baton Rouge, LA 70806
As a new Louisiana resident, you are required to transfer your out-of-state driver’s license to Louisiana within 30 days. You must appear in person at a local Office of Motor Vehicles to apply for a Louisiana driver’s license. Please take one primary document, your current, valid out-of-state driver’s license, or official copy of your driving record, or a clearance letter, or teletype from law enforcement faxed directly to your local office, Social Security Card, and proof of insurance.
To transfer a vehicle to Louisiana which has already been registered in the applicant’s name in another state, the following documentation is required:
1. A Vehicle Application (DPSMV1799) form completed and signed by the owner
2. The original out-of-state certificate of title. If the original certificate of title is being held by an out-of-state lien holder, see Policy 16, Section IV for additional guidelines.
3. Proof of current liability insurance
