Syracuse has more than 170 recreation areas maintained by the department, the ones listed below are some of the highlights.

600 animals call this zoo home.  The zoo is inside of Burnet Park and is open year round.  It also takes place in a variety of education and conservation efforts.

Burnet Park

This 88 acre park has multiple baseball and softball diamonds, including a lighted one, as well as a pool, multi-purpose fields, tennis and basketball courts, a winter skating rink, a playground and a picnic area.  There’s also a 9 hole golf course here.

Thornden Park

This 76 acre park overlooks Lake Onondaga.  It’s beautifully landscaped grounds contain a rose garden, swimming pool, amphitheater, tennis and basketball courts, a playground, and an athletic field.

Schiller Park
Oak St and Rugby Rd
Syracuse, NY

Schiller Park is arts and crafts themed and covers 24 acres.  It hosts the Bova Community Center, which has a gymnasium and computer lab, along with tutoring services, movie showings, and more.  The park itself has a swimming pool, softball diamonds, tennis courts, basketball and a playground.

The park covers 46 acres and hosts a 9 hole golf course, a football stadium, and an Olympic track.  There’s also lighted baseball and softball diamonds, tennis and basketball courts, and a playground.

Onondaga Parks

Divided into Upper and Lower Onondaga Parks, this area surrounds most of Lake Onondaga and is home to a lot of different facilities.  Lower Onondaga Park has a greenhouse, grottos, a stone bridge and fountains.  Upper Onondaga has a pool, piers for fishing, skating, and a bandstand.  Onondaga Lake Parkways surrounds the park and is closed to automotive traffic for a few hours each Sunday during the summer, and hosts a drive-through light show during the holiday season.
