Fraserview is maintained by the Vancouver Park Board.  It’s a 6700 yard par 72 set in an old forest.  The course was recently won bronze in best public course in Canada, and has a clubhouse and pro shop on site.  It’s open year round.

Furry Creek Golf & Country Club

Furry Creek is a par 72 course that covers 6,000 yards.  It was designed by Rober Muir Graves in 1993.  The course is fully public, but membership options are available for unlimited play.  The course also has banquet and dining facilities.  The website includes fly-overs of individual holes.

Langara Golf Course

Langara is a 6,000 yard par 71 that was recently redesigned and updated.  The course opened originally in 1926 and has narrow fairways that’ll be sure to make you work on your accuracy off the tee.  Langara, like Fraserview, is run by the Vancouver Park Board.

Mayfair Lakes is a 6,600 yard par 71.  It’s long, but fairly straightforward.  The course also has a heated driving range, practice facilities, instructors, and banquette facilities.  It’s about 20 minutes south of downtown.

McCleery Golf Course

McCleery is another one of Vancouver’s municipal courses.  It’s 6,300 yards long and is par 71.  The course is along the Fraser River.  The course is located in the southwest part of the city.

Meadow Gardens Golf Course

Meadow Gardens is par 72 course to the southeast of the city.  The course has plenty of water hazards, and the signature 18th hole makes full use of them, requiring golfers to cross 4 bridges as they island-hop their way to the hole.  The course also has banquet and practice facilities.

Northlands is 20 minutes north of downtown Vancouver and set in a dense forest.  The course was runner-up for Golf Digest’s “Best New Course” in 1998, and has won numerous other awards in the short time it’s been around.  The course is 6,500 yards from the long tees for a par of 71.

Queen Elizabeth Pitch & Putt

This course is right in the heart of Queen Elizabeth Park and gives great views of downtown.  It’s a par 54, 18 hole course that has no holes longer than 110 yards, so it’s good for beginners.  It also has club rentals, and doesn’t require reservations.

Redwoods Golf Course

Redwoods is an 18 hole public course with absolutely beautiful views of the mountains in a heavily wooded setting.  The course has tournaments and practice facilities including a covered driving range.  There’s also meeting rooms and a banquet hall.  The course is 45 min southwest of downtown Vancouver.

Rupert Pitch and Putt

The holes on this par 54 course range between 50 and 120 yards in length, so you won’t need to bring out the woods here, but it’s great for working on your short game.  No tee times are required, and they rent clubs, so it’s perfect for beginners.

Stanley Park Pitch and Putt

Right in the heart of one of Vancouver’s prettiest parks is another of the Park Board’s courses.  This one’s 18 holes that range from 40 to 100 yards long, so it’s designed with beginners in mind.  There’s no reservations required, and they rent clubs too.

University Golf Club covers 6,600 yards for a par of 72.  The public course is open year round.  The rough is mowed low and there are few hazards or water to get in the way, so it’s good for the golfer who isn’t perfectly accurate yet.  Still, bunkers come in to play on a few of the shorter holes.  The course has banquet and meeting facilities too.

Westwood Plateau is 40 minutes from downtown Vancouver and offers 27 holes of golf, two restaurants, and 35,000 sq feet of clubhouse.  The 18 hole course is 6,800 yards long with a par of 72.   Golf Digest has ranked it high for both customer service and course competitiveness.
